"Growing together to feed the needs of our children." - Mothers Unite Motto

Our feeding scheme

Through the impulse of a mother, the feeding all began a few years back. That is the foundation of Mothers Unite. (read more  under “About”)imgp0035-small

We are currently happy to be able to feed around 70-80 children who stream in twice a week. The meals are prepared in the morning from about 4 volunteers. A kitchen co-ordinator plans the menu and portions. We receive the ingredients from donors and regularly harvest our very own fresh vegetables. Each and every meal is nutritious and balanced. As we are often blessed with lots of fruit, we round up the meals with either a fruity dessert or a couple of fruits to take home for each child.

The feeding starts at 4 o’clock every Tuesday and Thursday directly after the educational programs. The volunteers dish up and distribute the meals, serve water and distribute fruits at the end. No child ever leaves the Mothers Unite program hungry. The fact that parents are not always able to provide a meal for their family is a reality for the children that attend our programs. We encourage the children therefore to start a vegetable garden at home to provide some fresh produce and improve their nutritional intake. At the same time this enables them to own and maintain a low cost food source.

Our educational programs

Presently 10 volunteers are actively involved in Mothers Unite. The registered children attending the after-school-programs, are divided into groups according to age. Each volunteer takes care of a group. The size of each group varies between 8 and 15 children. There are no limitations on the creative component in the different programs. Each program is developed to suit the needs of the children within that age range. The attitude towards the children is that of positive reinforcement and assertive enthusiasm. The programs are simply based on an individual’s creativity and passion. They cover a variety of: games with or without recreational toys (such as skipping, clapping, running, chasing, sitting, number or ball games), story telling or group reading sessions, creative writing, drawing or painting, singing or making music; one of our most beloved activities is craft making and beautifying our center in terms of painting walls, tyres or stones.  One of the programs also teaches the older children how to start a home garden.

Our plans for the future are to facilitate dancing lessons, Yoga, sports (e.g. gymnastics) and computer literacy.

Each facilitator aim to support the children’s emotional well being and educational needs as well as their physical and general well-being.
