Are you open to something new and exciting?

imgp0211-smallHave you been consumed by an idea that can possibly make the world a better place? If you live abroad and would like to contribute to our initiative for children living in the Cape Flats, you have come to the right place.

The Cape Flats is a geographic strip of low-lying area where historically the coloured community was relocated to during the apartheid era.

Have you thought of affording the children an opportunity to engage with you, and benefit from the love and safety you can provide?

If you would like to share some of your knowledge and set your creativity free, this will be an amazing journey.

Don’t wait any longer - get into motion - come and have an unforgettable experience with Mothers Unite.

Where can I stay?

It is well known that there are many young (and also older) people from all over the world who are willing to volunteer in an organization, but they are desperate to find a place to stay. There is accommodation around Cape Town that you may arrange yourself. Alternatively we can arrange a host family in the local community of Lavender Hill. Living in the community is a unique experience, and our local volunteers are very happy to host you during your stay. Naturally you need to be mindful when living in the Cape Flats, and adapt to the respective living conditions, which may be quite different to what you are familiar with.

In the last few years we had volunteers that were hosted by the families of our local community volunteers, and the international volunteers truly enjoyed their hospitality. Here are some of their personal accounts:

“Even though we had never met before my arrival, it felt totally natural to live with my host family. They were an elderly couple and cared for me as though I was their own daughter. Together with their grandchildren I experienced the reality of what life in Lavender Hill could be like. Living with a host family is one of the best things one can do when exploring a new culture and country. You get the LOCAL atmosphere which can’t be found elsewhere!” Sunniva (Sweden)
